/ WHAT WE BELIEVE
GOD // God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and are one God. // Scripture References :: Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14
JESUS CHRIST // Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of all people by death on a cross. He arose from the dead after thee days demonstrating His power over sin and death and accomplishing our redemption. He ascended to Heaven where he fulfills the ministry as Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate for His people, and He will return again someday to earth to reign as King. // Scripture References :: Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15, 7:25, 9:24; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4, 5:6, 8:34; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13
HOLY SPIRIT // The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling, empowering, and sealing them unto the day of redemption. Scripture References :: Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16-17, 12:12-13; John 14:16-17, 16:7-13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13, 5:18; Romans 8:9; 2 Corinthians 3:6
THE BIBLE // The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the final authority for faith and life. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error. // Scripture References :: 2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13
MAN // People are made in the image of God. People are the supreme object of God's creation, made by Him and for Him. But through Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. All of us are now marred by sin and utterly incapable of returning to God apart from a work of grace. Unregenerate man lives under the dominion of sin and Satan. He is at enmity with God, hostile toward God, and hateful of God. Fallen, sinful people, whatever their character or attainments, are lost and without hope apart from salvation in Christ alone. // Scripture References :: Genesis 1:26-27; Psalm 8:3-6; Romans 3:11-23, 5:12+18, 8:8; Isaiah 59:1-2; Ephesians 2:1-3; Colossians 1:21; Philippians 3:18; James 4:4; John 8:34; Titus 3:3; 2 Timothy 2:26
SALVATION // Salvation is God's free gift to us made possible through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ and His work alone can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self- ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever. // Scripture References :: Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10; John 1:12-13, 3:16, 6:37-40, 10:27-30; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1,8:1,31-39, 10:9-10; 1 Peter 1:5,18-21; 1 Corinthians 1:4-8
THE CHURCH // The Church is not a religious institution or denomination. Rather, the Church is made up of all people who have become genuine followers of Jesus Christ and have personally appropriated the gospel. The Church exists to worship and glorify God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It also exists to serve Him by faithfully doing His will on earth. We recognize baptism and the Lord’s supper as scriptural means of testimony for the church. // Scripture References :: Ephesians 1:22-23, 5:25-27; 1 Corinthians 11:22-26, 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Acts 14:27, 20:17; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-11
THE CONSUMMATION // According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth to establish his kingdom; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord. Then shall the eager expectation of creation be fulfilled, and the whole earth shall proclaim the glory of God, who makes all things new. // Scripture References :: John 3:16; Romans 6:23, 8:17-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-10; Hebrews 9:28; Revelation 7:9-17, 20:11-15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9
/ OUR STORY
Vertical Church is a community of people who love Jesus and love people.
Since the launch of this ministry in 2012, we have seen God do amazing things as He continues to build His church. What started as a few families meeting in a small living room, has grown to impact many lives in the Richmond and surrounding areas. In addition to our Sunday service, we gather throughout the week in Community Groups, as we seek to grow in our faith, serve one another, and impact the city around us with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are excited to see what God will continue to do through His people, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and for the sake of His glory.
We would love for you to join us and be apart of the story.
Pastor JOSH PRICE
Pastor Josh and his wife, Tiffany, have three sons, Brayden, Judah, and Micah. They have lived in the Greater Richmond area for 19 years, and consider it home. After serving multiple years in youth ministry and as a college and career pastor, Josh stepped out in faith and planted Vertical Church in 2012. Since then, he has loved having a front row seat to the work of God in and though this local body. In ministry, some of his greatest passions are teaching God’s word, training up other pastors, and working with other leaders to see more churches planted for the glory of Christ. On his day off you can find him reading, riding bikes with his family, and working out.
Pastor JOE HALL
Pastor Joe is husband to Logan Hall and father to Lucy Perrin Hall. He has been a part of Vertical Church since the summer of 2016, and was ordained as a pastor in the summer of 2019. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Furman University, he went on to earn a Masters in Christian Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has worked in a church either part or full-time since 2011, serving in various capacities. Some of his passions in ministry are: biblical counseling, discipleship, and global missions. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Joe enjoys cheering on the Braves, and spending time outside with Logan, Lucy, and their two dogs, Bear and Ozzie.
Pastor SCOTT BINNS
Pastor Scott and his wife, Anne, are the parents of 5 children - Chase, Jackson, Eliza, Sam and Cannon. Scott and Anne have been attending Vertical since the summer of 2016 and immediately looked for ways they could serve the church. Scott began leading one of Vertical's community groups at the start of 2018 and was ordained as a pastor in the summer of 2019. Scott is passionate about the study of God's Word, how God reveals himself to us through His Word, and the impact that Christian community has in the life of the believer. Now that all of their kids are currently in college or are about to head off to college, Scott and Anne enjoy spending time with their canine kids Cooper and Benson. Scott also enjoys outdoor activities, yard games (especially cornhole), working out and just hanging out with Anne on their screened porch at their home in Goochland.
Acts 29 exists to encourage, resource, facilitate, support and equip churches to plant churches that will plant church-planting churches. What gives Acts 29 its distinctive texture is their robust commitment to theological clarity, cultural engagement and missional innovation.
We believe that the church is God’s primary mission strategy, and so we seek to glorify Jesus by supporting and planting churches that will plant church planting-churches here and abroad.
